The Government is creating a new National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention (The National Commissioner), in recognition of the need for concerted action to address the unacceptably high rates of suicide among the Australian Defence Force member and veteran communities.

Attached below is a letter from the Secretary of the Attorney-General’s Department, Chris Moraitis PSM, regarding the introduction of the legislation for the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention and provides the opportunity to make a submission. A four week public consultation period has commenced and will close on Thursday 24 September 2020.
